Life with 3 Young Single Sons In Their Earley 20's

They think their so cute & charming. And young. Not only that, but the individuals they associate with are young, the "girls" they date are young perky and fresh. I have a hard time with the term "women" for theses girls even though I was married and a mommy by 24!
They challenge me not to compare my three sons to one one another. Shame on me...so I'll try harder.
So about life with "you know who"...when they come to visit, they still go to the fridge.
They have other things on their mind...and it is not mommy.

Ode to Dallas

I am still basking in the delight of seeing my family this last weekend. My sons brought along their girlfriends and they too enjoyed my family...and they are still talking to my sons. The clan back in Dallas is a big one. Everyone looked healthy. The diaper generation was rambling and running. Dogs were barking. We were all laughing and sharing good times. I just loved all of it.
My Mom & Don live on a large parcel of land in Frisco with pecan tress. Those pecan trees are full of pecans ripening and will soon be ready for harvest. The McIver Pecan Plantation may recieve a visit from the McMullins in late fall for a pecan harvest.
We also had the opportunity for a short visit with Miles' daughter, son-in-law, and grand kids.
He never really gets the one-on-one time with them he dreams of...someday maybe.
Noah, Miles' Grandson turned 3 and will start preschool on Monday from 8 to 11. If I thought for a minute it would help her and Steve for us to be closer to help with the daly stress I'd move to Plano in a heart beat. When I saw her Mom she appeared to be in pain. The arthritis makes her shuffle instead of walk. However, Marilyn appears to remain upbeat and has the support of her husband Mike Roddy. But they live close to Tyler. The other Grandparents live in Grapevine. I so want to help Leigh & Steve...but that can be a challenge in itself.
Any way...Dallas seems to change every time I return...which makes returning more fun.

Taco Tuesday

I play the "jumble" in the newspaper everyday...the word game right next to the crossword puzzle. Dr. Sermas says it will help me get back my cognitive skills. Some days, like today, I breeze right thu the challenge within minutes. On other days I can't make sense of a single thing. On those days I'm reminded of my challenges and how my "challenges" often feel like a huge wall, where I must take a nap. Not "can" take a nap...but "must" take a nap. Wrong words come from my mouth. For instance...I try to say "flashlight", but all I can think of is "towel".
It sure makes conversations with me fun. And nobody can beat me at Scrabble...I am the reining queen. It's just some days...all to frequent...that disturbs me. This is the last year of college for Mike & Charlie. The paper work has become overwhelming for me...just got to to stick with it!
I had tacos for dinner.

Prepared like a Scout

Hurricane Dean is on his way to Cancun not Houston. This is still a good time to be prepared, my guidelines are simple and, might I add, very reasonable.

1. Color my hair.

2. Manicure

3. Pedicure

4. Cash

5. Gas

6. Vodka for Miles, Cola for Barb...wishing it were Vodka (damn Epilepsy)

7. It's all about the ice cream.

I received an email from Mary Washington Sass here in Houston. Her mother was my Brownie and Girl Scout Leader when I attended St. Rita Catholic Elementary in Dallas. I remember a funky, green cushion I sewed in Brownies, and Mrs. Washington's unending enthusiasm for every thing related to Scouting. But what I really took away from Scouts about what I need to do to be prepared in case of emergency...march door-to door and sell cookies & laugh a lot.

Monday was a simple day. My son Charlie was here for a quick visit...he just landed a job at a law firm as he finishes up his last year of college. I'm not stupid, he was here to see what I had to eat. And eat he did! He does it all the time, walks in and goes straight to the fridge. Other Monday events...my bathtub, commode, and floor...well...let's just say ...they gleam. But who wants to brag? (and who really cares?)I had other incidental details keeping me not so busy like paying bills, exercising, blah, blah , blah. Tonight we will go for a late night swim. A groovy end to a groovy day.

Sunday in Galveston

Spent Sunday in Galveston. Surf has really churned up a little due to Hurricane Dean. Recently a whale and her calf washed ashore, the mama died. The calf survived and is being treated. Bacteria warnings in the water were posted as "acceptable"...but to whom? That's just gross. Princess Cruise Lines is now offering a cruise to nowhere for $100. The cruise line had to cancel all Caribbean & Mexican destinations, so they just cruise the safer areas of the gulf. I'm going to pay with a check from the Bank of Nowhere. Miles and I also had a late lunch/early dinner...linner...all shrimp.... yummy stuff. We walked along the sea wall enjoying the sun and the ocean.
Ah Sunday...sleeping late, Galveston, dead mammals, trips to nowhere, shrimp and hurricanes.
Remember that song Glen Campbell sang " Galveston, oh Galveston"?
My first blog entry...hope you feel closer to me mom.
